Step Out of the Traffic

Who here is busy? My life is so very full also with the familiar rhythms found in wife, kids, business, church, ministry, friends, family. Life pulls at us in many directions – which is super fun for the most part but ultimately life is full of busy – like more than I imagined – wonderfully, amazingly occupied! I find myself regularly arriving at the revelation I’m once again in hurry’s trap; but busy is not how we were created to live, we weren’t designed to hurry through life. Exhaustion is hustles only reward and busyness has got us in it’s grip; the perpetual underlying white noise of doing!  You know, I’ve gotten so good at “doing” that I’m relearning “being”. Psalm 46:10 (Message version) says:

“Attention, all! See the marvels of GOD! He plants flowers and trees all over the earth, Bans war from pole to pole, breaks all the weapons across his knee. “Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything.””
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭46:8-10‬ ‭MSG‬‬

The 4 encouragements I’ve taken for this is:

1. “Attention all!” – God’s inclusive and He’s in pursuit of you – He’s trying to get your attention: This isn’t reserved for the über holy! This is for all of us… so babe this ones for you too!
2. “See the marvels of God” – You have to slow your pace to see the beauty around you. Begin to get good at being aware of His presence, His provision, His plan, His protection.
3. “Take a long, loving look at me…” – This is what worship is… placing worth on Him. Taking our eyes off our circumstance and refocusing on Him. We need to prioritize time to step out from the traffic of our life/business and make room to seek His face.
4. “…your High God, above politics, above everything.” He is personable and in relationship with us. He is literally positioned infinitely above every thing. When we worship Him, we begin to see Him above our every thing – including our businesses.

My biggest take away is “Step out of the traffic”… I love that!! How often we get caught in the flow of deadlines and destination, neglecting to take the needed rest stops along the way to go the distance. What does traffic look like in your life? For me it’s busyness, the underlying white noise of doing. I’ve gotten so good at “doing”, I’m relearning “being”. What a treasured gift to be still before Him. For when we are still we allow Him to sit on His rightful throne in our lives. And when we do, we are saying we know that we know that we know He is God. Ultimately He is Lord of our lives first and foremost, our families and our ministry! Which means He’s got you, He’s got your calling, He’s got your church, He’s got your family…

So babe… how are you and Jesus doing? Is He being found in your hustle? Are you making room for him in your personal walk and in your ministry? He’s waiting to spend time with you today… Be blessed and encouraged!!
