Prepare for Your Promised Land

What is the calling you have heard over your life? For me it started when I was 16 to be a Worship Pastor. Back then I read every book, I went to every conference, I learnt all there was to know on what worship was and how I could do it vaguely well, I clung to those who had gone before me seeking their wisdom on how to try to lead people, how to keep myself in check, how in the future I would make ministry and family cohesive.

It’s evolved a lot since then, and over the years experience has taught me no amount of reading or rehearsal prepares you for some of the things you face in ministry; it’s through trial and error, brokenness, making mistakes, growing and learning to store it all away the treasure you’ve gleaned so you have a constant overflow in your future. Looking to now though, I am walking that future I once day dreamed about – whilst it looks incredibly different to how I first dreamt I’m learning to navigate and appreciate the wealth my previous years stored up for me. Now, I’m living the end of the first dream and presented with the glorious delight of dreaming up new fields to sow into, to build harvest into; as we tread in new territory I am more and more aware of what I am sowing now, I will reap in my future.

So sweet one, how prepared are you for your promised land?

Before Joshua is sent out, God has a neat little chat with him:

“Get your provisions ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you for your own.” Joshua 1:11 NIV

God gives Joshua the heads up. Start now. It’s not a heap of time to get a nation and their belongings ready. What you think might be coming will not only look different but it won’t be on your timeline. Invest in the seed… though it is not yet fully grown or is beginning to sprout, begin your preparations now sweet one. Only you will know what that looks like and it might look like this: find avenues to fund your ministry, set up date times so your family remains your first church, make room for the secret place in your day to day, set aside finance to support the call, further your studies, equip yourself by mastering your craft, do the hard yard so your hurt doesn’t get in the way.

Whatever getting prepared looks like for you, begin today so that when the time comes you are ready to step fully into what He has for you.

Until next time… xox
